The Importance of Character

The presidential campaign reminds us of the importance of character in those who hold elective office. We are fortunate on the shoreline to have a state senator, Christine Cohen (D-12), and a state representative, Sean Scanlon (D-98), who have great character—really good communicators, integrity, accessibility, and competence. Each of them has significant responsibilities in our General Assembly, Christine as chair of the Environment Committee and Sean as chair of the Insurance Committee, which deals with major health issues. Our environment and our health are our quality of life.

There is another part of the character of Christine and Sean that they bring to us. Both are parents of young children as well as business people, Christine as an owner with her husband of a wonderful bagel shop in Madison and Sean as executive director of Tweed Airport. Both of those enterprises under their leadership contribute much to our communities.

I encourage your readers to join me and thousands of others in voting for their return to the General Assembly on Election Day, Nov. 3.
