Fiscal Discipline and Social Values

I recently had the pleasure of speaking with and then meeting Brendan Saunders, the Republican candidate for Connecticut’s 33rd Senate District, which serves Chester, Clinton, Colchester, Deep River, East Haddam, East Hampton, Essex, Haddam, Lyme, Portland, Westbrook, and part of Old Saybrook.

Mr. Saunders explained why he has made lower taxation and improved cost of living a focus of his campaign. He understands that Connecticut families cannot continue to pay ever-increasing state and local taxes. The Tax Foundation reports that in 2012 Connecticut had the second-highest combined state and local rates of taxation in the country.

Even more disturbing is that Connecticut now has some of the highest effective property tax rates in the country. According to the Tax Foundation’s Jared Walczak, Connecticut’s property taxes have increased even during periods when property values decline.

Brendan recognizes that the quality of life we enjoy here is threatened by rising taxation. The programs long promoted by Democrats fuel the taxation but do not overcome the economic erosion. Families have already begun moving from the area.

Brendan is a minister and a business manager, so he has an understanding of fiscal discipline and social values. Therefore, he is qualified to bring forward legislation that lowers taxation while maintaining the quality of life that we value in this area.

Our economic wellbeing is important in this election so that’s why I believe Brendan Saunders should become the next state senator for the 33rd District.
