Advocates for Taxpayers

As the Westbrook tax collector, many people talk to me about taxes and affordability. With the coronavirus pandemic, people are even more concerned about their household budgets. There is a worry that politicians in Hartford will vote to raise taxes next year, something so many of us cannot afford right now. However, I know that State Representative Devin Carney (R-23) and State Senate candidate Brendan Saunders will be staunch advocates for taxpayers and will advocate for a more affordable Connecticut.

Devin’s record on taxes speaks for itself. He voted to stop proposed tax hikes on veterinary services, accounting services, legal services, and even a proposal that would have raised taxes on groceries. He opposed the new tax on safety apparel, which increases costs on protective equipment. Better yet, he was able to help reduce taxes on boat sales and retirement income to make Connecticut more competitive with our neighbors.

Brendan has pledged to oppose new taxes and to work to reduce spending in Hartford. He knows there is a lot of waste in state government and will work to reduce it. Brendan will also work to prevent costly municipal mandates from coming to our towns, such as a statewide car tax or requiring towns to cover teacher’s retirement costs.

I encourage your readers to support both Devin and Brendan this November. They will always work for Westbrook’s taxpayers.
