Energy, Focus, and Passion

I am proud to endorse John-Michael Parker for state representative of the 101st District.

In 2018, I was at the Madison station waiting for my train to work when a young man came up to me and started a conversation. Bike helmet in hand, he told me about his run for state representative, his experience living most of his life in Madison, and the change he wanted to bring to our district. He also took a strong interest in my perspective; he proceeded to ask me questions about my life and what I wanted to see in local politics. For the first time, I felt politically heard; John-Michael wasn’t just interested in highlighting talking points. He wasn’t just looking to add another name to his list. He was genuinely interested and cared about what I had to say.

John-Michael actively listened when I talked about how support for the arts in schools is extremely important to me; in response, he highlighted his endless service, experience, and dedication to arts in education. When I talked about my hope for a more diverse Madison, John-Michael talked about meeting his brother Sam through the ABC program in town. In a world where politics can seem cynical, sterile, and impersonal, John-Michael made me feel like I played an active role with just one short conversation while waiting for my train to arrive.

Regardless of political affiliation, I believe politicians could do with a little less talking and a lot more listening. John-Michael will bring an energy, focus, and passion to the state legislature that is sorely needed. There is no one I would trust more to ensure that the citizens of our town are heard and championed in Hartford.
