Concerns for the Environment

I’m pleased to write in support of Christine Goupil, who is running for state representative in the 35th House District for the towns of Clinton, Killingworth, and Westbrook. For years, Ms. Goupil has been a tireless champion of progress in Clinton and Connecticut where she currently serves on the Clinton Town Council, the Connecticut River Area Health District Board, and the Central Regional Tourism District Board. She is a founding member of both the Clinton Arts Council and local citizens group Clinton Placemakers. As Clinton’s first selectman, she steered our town government away from a town selectman and toward a smarter, town manager approach to city government.

While her list of accomplishments and firsts is lengthy, it is Christine’s progressive ideas that have most compelled me to work on her behalf and share my enthusiasm for her candidacy. Her priorities include support for seniors’ rights and those of women including reproductive rights. She will fight for sustainable, inclusive, equitable communities. Importantly, she will work to transition to universal healthcare, which she believes to be a basic right of all people.

Perhaps at the top of my list are her concerns for the environment and our stewardship. In working for a green new deal for Connecticut, she will help lead the way to develop increased energy efficiency and speed the deployment of renewable energy resources. Important goals include sustainability initiatives, electric grid resilience, coastal protection through incentives, and the development of a “green collar” workforce.

These are just a few of the many reasons I support Christine Goupil for state representative and I hope your readers will agree she is the sort of leader we could use now!
