The Darkest Truth

I am proud of The Source for so clearly illuminating the darkest truth about our town’s pathetic racist legacy [Aug. 20 story “Witness Stones Project Completion Allows Town to Honor Local Enslaved Woman”].

The Witness Stones Project is intended to raise awareness and civic engagement with the historical realities and current consequences of slavery. Racism and bigotry are sewn in to the tapestry of our town.

The fact of the matter is that Madison’s bubble is supported by a single pillar, carved by the shrapnels of deception, sewn-in racism, and blatant bigotry, in the community where we live.

After reading your Aug. 20 story by Jesse Williams, I am left with just one question: Seriously, are parents really going to send their students back into those school buildings?

By keeping children home for remote learning and off of the town’s athletic playing fields, parents are not only preventing the spread of the coronavirus, they are preventing the spread of prejudice and bias in the community where we “live, work, or pray.”
