Focused on Education

As a father of two young girls who attend Old Saybrook public schools, I am always focused on their education. We are fortunate to have great schools in town that provide a top-notch education and, in turn, make our community desirable. Unfortunately, not every legislator in Hartford believes that individual municipalities should have control over their schools. Last year, there was a proposal to allow the state to forcefully regionalize our district with other towns. This would have created massive school districts and lower-quality education, and would have negatively affected our property values!

Thankfully, State Representative Devin Carney (R-23) fought extremely hard and successfully defeated this proposal. He engaged with and listened to local educators, parents, and students and led the charge to stop the state from meddling with our schools. As a graduate of Old Saybrook High School, he really understands how important high quality public education is to our community and wants to ensure that every child has the same opportunity to receive an excellent learning experience. I know he is there for us, listens to our concerns, and fights hard against overreach from the state.

Forced regionalization could come up again next year, so it is vital that we re-elect Devin because he will continue to zealously fight for us and our kids. I will be voting to re-elect Devin Carney on Nov. 3 and encourage folks who care about the quality of our public education to do the same.
