‘Captured the Essence’

Maria Caulfield did such a wonderful job profiling my father Jack Davis as Person of the Week [“Jack Davis: A Lifetime of Achievement,” July 16], and I know he and we family members are grateful to her and The Source. So many people in our community, having seen the piece, have reached out to him with thanks for all he has contributed to the town. Plus, we have heard from many others far and wide who saw the article online.

Readers might be interested in one such note from Ginger Anthony, from Chevy Chase, Maryland, who has known my father for more than 45 years in her capacity as executive director of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. She said of Maria’s profile: “You captured the essence of Jack. He always brings vision to interactions, and his generosity is constant. He is ecumenical and supported many educational scholarships for the Academy including funding the participation of a colleague from Iraq. We went to Cuba together twice, and although helping two Havana synagogues was a bonus, he relished bringing back cigars for his colleagues in Madison. He is a humanitarian who has fun, shows us all how to be better.”

With such tributes, what could have been a better 97th (or 194th) birthday?
