Will Promote Independence

As co-founder of the Connecticut Amputee Network (www.ctamputeenetwork.org), I applaud the support of HB 6002, An Act Concerning Absentee Voting, by my state legislators, State Representative Robin Comey (D-102) and State Senator Christine Cohen (D-12), as well as by the additional 143 House members and 34 senators who voted this bill into law.

Venturing out to the polls in New England in November’s sometimes harsh weather carries risks for people with limb loss in any election year. This year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all citizens face an additional serious health risk. By allowing voting by mail, the passage of this bill reduces public health risk by reducing public gatherings at polling places.

Thanks to HB 6002, all voters will benefit from the right to request an absentee ballot and it will promote independence for people with limb loss and limb difference.

Again, many thanks to Robin Comey and Christine Cohen.
