Proud of Our Initiatives

The Leete’s Island Garden Club recently joined National Garden Club (NGC) members across the country in celebration of National Garden Week.

As a member of NGC, Leete’s Island Garden Club’s common objectives include civic beautification, education of environmental issues, and direct involvement with conservation efforts. To this end, the club has numerous civic projects around town including installation and care of gardens and planters at the Nathanel B. Greene Community Center, the Guilford Free Library, sidewalks on the Guilford Green, and on the docks and entrance of the Guilford Town Marina. Most notable is the beautiful brick garden walkway on Whitfield Street, Leete’s Island Lane. The club has open monthly meetings with speaker topics on the environment, planting, floral design, and conservation, to which all are invited. We also collaborate directly with the Guilford Green Committee, the Guilford Tree Commission, and the town’s tree warden in support of all’s best interests.

We are proud of our initiatives and serving the Town of Guilford over the past 80 years.

This year you might notice that there are a few less planters on our streets downtown and at the marina. The club felt that the proximity of the gardeners and the public could provide a social distancing concern for many of our members during the pandemic. Be assured there will be an abundance of colorful flowers for all to enjoy next year!

Please make note that our meetings, held the second Tuesday of each month, will begin again in September. We will be publicizing our speaker programs in the Courier and, once again, we invite all interested parties to attend.
