Prudent and Fair

In light of the current crisis, I ask that the Board of Selectmen and other town bodies seriously consider the partial use of Branford’s roughly $25 million fund balance to assist local businesses during this time of economic hardship.
Given that this amount is the product of overtaxation and is far in excess of the standard amount of $12 million (10 percent of the overall budget), it would seem both prudent and fair on the town’s part to return some of these surplus funds to the taxpayers, particularly at a time when it is needed most.
