05/20/2020 08:00 AMThanks to the staff and volunteers of the Guilford Cares program, my wife and I have had our food shopping at the Big Y taken care of for the past six weeks. As we are both in our 80s and advised to quarantine, this has been an invaluable service. My wife Sally, a former volunteer of the month and volunteering two days of the week at The Hole in the Wall, and I, a former volunteer at the food bank for 15 years and following that at Meals On Wheels, never imagined that we would be the recipients of a “help your neighbor” program.
Kudos go to Terry Buckley from Park & Recreation and Dennis Culliton for setting up the Guilford Cares program with The Ethan Miller Song Foundation.
Our principal contact, Patti Haggerty, assistant to Terry, has been extremely helpful coordinating our order and keeping us advised as to items unavailable. Those who deliver, friendly and efficient, have gone out of their way to be sure they get the items requested correct by calling from the store and then advising us when they will be dropping the packages off at our front door.
We truly do appreciate the entire staff at The Guilford Cares program, another example of our caring community. We are proud to call Guilford home.
