No Ordinary Times

The past six weeks have been a difficult time for our community as we navigate the economic and health consequences of this crisis. Many have lost their jobs, their businesses, and their livelihood. Some have lost their lives. I want to thank each and every one of your readers for their strength, resiliency, and bravery during uncertain days. Their efforts to employ social distancing measures have helped to flatten the curve, preventing our hospital from being overrun.

As state representative for the 35th Assembly District, I have been focused on assisting many who have reached out to me for help. I encourage those who are in need of assistance to call my office at 860-240-8700, or email me jesse.maclachlan@cga.ct.gov.

During this dark time, I’ve been inspired by beacons of light and hope throughout our community. I’ve seen restaurants like La Foresta give out free meals, the Lee Company buying thousands of dollars worth of gift cards for local businesses, Families Helping Families and the Lions club supporting our local food pantries, teachers and parents banding together for distance learning, neighbors making masks for neighbors, and the list goes on. I thank our first responders and health care workers for putting their lives at risk to keep us safe. In the struggle, I have seen the best of us shine forth and for that, I am grateful and inspired.

We have a long road ahead of us. As President Franklin Delano Roosevelt said, these are no ordinary times. The road to recovery will be long but I’ve seen our strength and I know we can overcome any obstacle, together.

State Representative Jesse MacLachlan (R-35)
