Goodness and Generosity

Easter Sunday 2020 was certainly not your standard holiday celebration. However, the kindness and beauty of the day were as evident as ever in Guilford, even at a socially appropriate distance of six feet. Meals on Wheels delivered 105 meals to those who could not get out. We wish to thank Beth Morris, Laurie Saunders, and the wonderful volunteer drivers who spent their holiday morning happily helping others. Together, in all, they delivered 105 delicious meals that were prepared by our chef, Larry Santamaria, and his capable kitchen staff Bonnie Fucci and Kathy Dougherty. We wish to thank them for countless hours in the kitchen at a non-stop pace.

In addition, there were other acts of generosity that made this a very special holiday. Walmart donated 14 Easter lilies to our drivers. The Guilford White House Florist donated 105 roses, one to accompany each meal. Also, we wish to thank the Bovee family for the abundance of hand-made crafts and cards; Panera Bread and Take the Cake for delicious baked goods; the WRR ladies for the crafts; Cynthia Pallman for the beautiful, hand-knit blankets; and Jane Gresham for the hand-crafted heart charms. Lastly, we would like to thank all who donated to the Guilford Cares Fund, supported by the Ethan Miller Song Foundation, for making sure that no senior in Guilford goes hungry during this crisis. As Reverend Ginger Brasher-Cunningham of the First Congregational Church in Guilford said, “Love is never in isolation”—that was clearly evident on this beautiful morning. Goodness and generosity brought light and hope to our town on Easter Sunday. We are grateful to all involved.
