Stay Positive

The last month has been a trying time for our community. We’re facing both a health and economic crisis at the same time and it’s unclear when we’ll turn the corner. Yet it’s important to remember, even in the darkest of moments, that all of us experience worrying about our jobs, families, or health that we’ll turn the corner and this will not last forever.

To help expedite this, all of us need to do our part by staying home and practicing safe social distancing. While many people in our community are complying with the governor’s guidelines, there are still too many who are not. I fully understand it’s not ideal to stay inside for prolonged periods of time, but it’s what we all must to in the name of the greater good.

As 98th District state representative, I’m focused on helping those most affected by this crisis. If a reader needs assistance or has a question, they shouldn’t hesitate to contact my office at 860-240-0516 or email me at sean.scanlon@cga.ct.gov.

Dr. King famously said the best time to measure a person’s character is during moments of challenge, not comfort. You don’t have to go very far these days to find examples of our true character. It’s the teachers and parents making distance learning work, a coffee shop transitioning to making food for the homeless, our local farm market stepping up to offer curbside pickup, a volunteer delivering groceries to a senior, or a coordinated effort to buy gift cards from local businesses. This is what makes Guilford such a special place and no virus or trying time can change that.

When this is over, we’ll be there for one another. Until then, I encourage your readers to stay safe, stay home, and stay positive—we will get through this!
