Please Support Your Community News Site's COVID Coverage

The coronavirus crisis has nearly halted the local economy — including media advertising. That means local, independent news organizations such as ours must fight for our own survival while continuing to provide critical news and information as a public service during this unprecedented situation. If you believe local reporting is important and you're able to lend support during this pandemic, click here for info on making a tax-deductible donation.

Last week I wrote a note to Norm Needleman, our first selectman, asking if it would be possible to have the American flags decorating our streetlights down Main Street as a reminder of what a great community and country we live in. He replied that the Essex Board of Trade is responsible for that task and that he would see what he could do.

In less than 48 hours, the flags were flying proudly, depicting our support of our community, our country, and the great people who are working so diligently against the COVID-19 virus. Their efforts to keep all of us safe and allow us to get our lives back on track as soon as possible is so tremendously appreciated.

May all of us join in this effort to show thanks by proudly displaying our American flags on each and every home. We are all in this together.

A heart felt “Thank you” goes to the Essex Board of Trade for showing our community strength by hanging the flags in honor of our wonderful country and the men and women who work hard to keep it great!
