A Pretty Tight-Knit Place

If you’ve lived in East Haven almost the entirety of your life like I have, you probably have a rich appreciation for the bonds and traditions that hold our community together. However, even if you’re a relative newcomer to town, you’re probably keenly aware that East Haven is a pretty tight-knit place. This fact seems to get underscored during tough times, like during this current health crisis.

For the past few weeks my Facebook news feed has been chock full of reminders of why East Haven is such an amazing community. In case you missed them, here are some of the highlights:

A woman, unable to locate necessary sanitizing wipes for her medical equipment, was overjoyed when donations came pouring in thanks to a simple Facebook post.

A 92-year-old woman, confined to her home for precautionary reasons, received a 93rd birthday surprise when a parade of tens of cars drove by her house beeping their horns to celebrate her special day.

Messages of kindness, in chalk art, lined driveways across the town and brought people, forced to social distance, a little closer together.

Patrons of local restaurants dug into their pockets and showered support on local eateries and service staff, often over-tipping to help them weather the loss of business.

Although this type of news gets extra attention during times of crisis, these things actually happen every day in East Haven. I’ve always been proud to call East Haven home, and that pride has been bolstered over the past few weeks watching our community stick together. I’ve always said it, and this crisis proved it once again—in tough times, East Haven always shines.
