I would like to inform East Haven’s residents of an initiative my group, Clean UP East Haven, has proposed to the Town Council that will be helpful to the community. Sustainable CT is a voluntary certification program to recognize thriving and resilient Connecticut municipalities. An independently funded, grassroots, municipal effort, Sustainable CT provides a wide-ranging menu of best practices paving a way to a sustainable future. Sustainable CT also provides opportunities for grant funding to help communities promote economic well-being and enhance equity, all while respecting the finite capacity of the natural environment. These matching funds are available to any town groups or organizations who have an approved project with their own generated funds.

The first step to working toward a certified town status and access to matching funds is our Town Council passing a resolution. I look forward to having this on March’s council meeting agenda. I encourage your readers to reach out to their district’s councilpersons and ask they support this program and place it on the Town Council’s March Agenda. I truly believe this program will be exceptionally beneficial to our town and giving our great community groups the access to available funds that will be used for the betterment of our town.
