It’s About Inclusivity

I am writing to urge the community to support the building of a splash pad at Jacobs Beach. This would be a safe and accessible area for people of all ages to enjoy water play. It is wheel chair accessible and good for seniors to cool off; children who have tubes in their ears or other health issues can all enjoy water play. It’s about inclusivity—all ages and all abilities.

The minimalist design aspect of the pad, which does not feature any large structures or bulky equipment, will make it both resistant to storm damage as well as fit into the surrounding area. All the ground water nozzles are water-conserving and in addition, rain guards are incorporated into the system to recycle some of the water. The water sprays up and out onto safe, textured deck. It does not require lifeguards, like a public pool. It’s a safe alternative to open-water swimming, especially for the very young, the elderly, or disabled, but also is enjoyed by anyone who needs a summertime cool down. I do hope the community will support the fundraising efforts.
