The coronavirus crisis has nearly halted the local economy — including media advertising. That means local, independent news organizations such as ours must fight for our own survival while continuing to provide critical news and information as a public service during this unprecedented situation. Thanks for the wonderful profile of Deb Mal [Dec. 26, 2019 “Debra Mal: Dancing a Life of Exuberance”]. What an amazing career she is having—making an indelible impression on the youth of Old Saybrook.
I meet young adults all the time who still praise the positive impact she had on their lives by opening the whole world of dance to them, from an early age. The lifelong benefits are undeniable. I thank her for all she does for others. She and husband Peter have to be the most inspiring couple I know in town, and they do everything with their entire heart and soul: Peter is on the golf course every day, rain or shine, because he loves the game with a passion, and then you can find him recouperating in the jacuzzi at the Saybrook Point Inn and Spa, where he still finds time for yoga classes.
Of course, anyone lucky enough to have caught them in their dazzling tap-dance act, on-stage at the annual high school show, will never forget it! Here’s to living life to the fullest, like Deb and Peter.
