Toward a Healthier Branford

Very often we think of healthy eating as a poor alternative to tasty eating. The Branford Gets Fresh Coalition was the brainchild of Frank Carrano to engage those in our community to sit down and explore how to transform our neighbors’ perceptions of good food through sharing information, recipes, cooking techniques, and smart ingredient choices, accomplishing all this using social media to start the conversation toward a healthier Branford.

To get the word out, on Nov. 6, Branford Gets Fresh hosted its first tasting event at The Stony Creek Brewery. A Fresh Taste of the Branford Shoreline was a showcase of healthy eating options in our community, and the sold-out crowd helped us raise money for three food-based organizations in town, the Community Dining Room Inc., Branford Food Pantry, and Feed Branford Kids. The support and enthusiasm at the event were beyond our expectations.

A big thank you goes to the following businesses, organizations, and individuals for their support and participation: Stop & Shop of Branford; Crostini Breakfast and Lunch; La Cucina Prepared Meals & Catering; Eli’s on the Hill; Reverie Kitchen; Home Restaurant of Branford; Betty Ann Donegan; Pine Orchard Yacht & Country Club; Tommy Sullivan’s Café; Parthenon Diner; Venice Bakery; Chartwells; BHS Class Act Culinary program; Petonito’s Pastry and Cupcake Shoppe; Flowers on the Green; Cynthia’s Flower Shop, Myers Flower Shop; Mosaic Marketing, Printing & Signage; and The Stony Creek Brewery.

We hope all of our Branford neighbors will check out Branford Gets Fresh on Facebook, like our page, and share healthy cooking and eating ideas!
