Cause for Celebration

I’d like to thank the citizens of Killingworth for their vote of confidence last week. We have a great town, and I’m proud to continue to serve it.

We have something extra to be proud of this year. As of this writing, Killingworth has the highest voter turnout of any municipality in the state: 60 percent! That’s more than 10 percentage points higher than in 2017, and almost twice the state average. All the parties in this year’s election—Democrats, Republicans, and Conservatives—worked hard to turn out their voters, and this level of engagement is cause for celebration. Woohoo!

There were so many ballots cast that they almost jammed the machines. Many thanks go to the registrars and poll workers who kept things running smoothly, as usual, for 14 hours.

Thank also go to all the candidates who stepped up to run for office. Almost all of those offices are volunteer positions, and the town could not function without the women and men willing to give their time and their interest to making this the town we all want to live in.

I want to thank Nancy Gorski for her service on the Board of Selectmen (and before that on the Board of Finance). Nancy has a great eye for detail and is dedicated to the good of all Killingworth residents. Serving with her has been a pleasure.

Congratulations go to Eileen Blewett on her election to the Board of Selectmen. I look forward to working with her along with my running mate, Lou Annino, Jr.

Congratulations also go to Peggy Lyons on her election as first selectman of Madison. I expect we will find new areas where our towns can work together.

We have a lot of work to do, and it’s good to get back to it.

First Selectman Catherine Iino (D)
