A New Spirit of Cooperation

I have been honored to have served for the last four years as Madison’s first selectman. It’s been four years of a wonderful adventure in town government. We’ve tried a lot of things and some have turned out great and others still need improvement, but the willingness of the employees to venture into new areas has been very rewarding to me and to the town.

I’ve been blessed with a senior staff that is capable, competent, and creative. We’ve updated policies and procedures and made sweeping improvements to customer service and engagement. We’ve written some new ordinances and rewritten old ones. I’m proud of them and the work we’ve done together.

The town hall employees have adapted to change and made their own suggestions for improvements. We’ve seen a bottom-up effort to make Madison Town Hall a friendlier place for our residents to visit and transact their business.

Our town and school crews have been great teammates. Public Works, Grounds (Beach & Rec), and Facilities (Buildings) departments are responsive and efficient and most of all friendly. My office staff, the Human Resources Department, and my executive assistant have been like family to me. From the start they made my job easier to understand and perform.

I’ll miss my interactions with all the town employees. They have been supportive and effective. And so I reluctantly say goodbye, even though I will still interact with them as a member of the Board of Selectmen.

I wish Peggy Lyons the best in her new job. It will be challenging, but she will have an excellent team of town employees and the new boards we have elected to help her. I look forward to a new spirit of cooperation between the parties to do what is best for our town above all else.
