A Lot of Important Work

As I sit here the morning after Election Day, the proverbial odd man out, I would like to say how grateful I am for the last four years and the chance to give back to Madison. To everyone who won, I say congratulations. They have a lot of important work in front of them and I hope they are able to present good, viable options for us vote on. To everyone who ran unsuccessfully, I thank them for stepping up. In an age where it is easy to go onto social media and launch an opinion into the ether, it takes a special type of commitment to try to create change as an elected volunteer.

Tuesday’s voter turnout out was much higher than normal for a municipal election and that is never a bad thing for our democracy. However, I urge everyone to stay involved, regardless of their preferred candidate or party. It is a constant challenge to engage residents in local issues and our elected officials need our input year-round to keep Madison great. Better yet, volunteer for an appointed board or commission. The number of volunteers needed to run this town is staggering and there is always an unfilled seat.

I hope, during my time on the Board of Selectmen, that I made the town a little better. I know it made me a better person. Thank you for that.
