Strength, Passion, and Knowledge

I’m thrilled to endorse Katie Stein and Cathy Miller for Board of Education. I know that they will bring strength, passion, knowledge, and a roll up your sleeves and get things done attitude to their positions on Board of Education.

Katie is currently the chair of the Board of Education. This is a position that she did not seek out, but stepped up to when called upon. She has brought more transparency and focus to the board. Under Katie’s tenure, two critical sub-committees were formed. The first is the Facilities Sub-Committee, whose only purpose is to ensure proper long-term planning and viability of our school facilities.

The second sub-committee is Communications. At this time of quick pithy sound bites, it’s critical that facts are presented in an unbiased fashion from our elected officials. This sub-committee does just that. Katie has weathered through challenging times on the board but has always come through it with grace and dignity. She constantly strives for the common ground and builds consensus through listening and compromise. Katie is a true public servant and talented leader.

Cathy Miller is new to elected public service, but has been a veritable public servant as a career educator for 32 years. She has served as an elementary teacher, a staff developer, a reading recovery teacher, and a literacy coach. Her experience will bring a new perspective to the Board of Education. Cathy’s warmth and enthusiasm is contagious and I look forward to the energy that she will bring to her role on the Board of Education.

I am honored to call both of these strong, positive, loving women my friend. I encourage your readers to join me and vote for Katie Stein and Cathy Miller on Nov. 5.
