Prudence and Vigilance

I would like to add my voice to the letters here supporting my campaign for Guilford’s Board of Finance.

Yes, my seat is uncontested. I still want your readers’ votes. I have been actively campaigning to let the people of Guilford know about my background, my service to community, as well as why I want to take on this role.

Born and raised in Guilford, I know the issues faced by a successful town in a challenged state. My 40 years in finance give me the technical knowledge of budgets, cash flows, and efficiencies, but my understanding of the character and culture of Guilford guides me toward the best ways to employ that experience.

Fortunate to see much of the world and ever more inspired by the qualities of Guilford, I can use what I’ve learned to good advantage here at home. I will work to fully fund our pension obligations, plan ahead to support our schools in the face of diminished state help, and apply budget savings and surpluses to debt or reduce bonding for capital expenses, reducing taxes.

My sense of Guilford is that we look after each other. Volunteerism, compassion, transparency, and common sense abound, making this community extraordinary and vital to preserve.

I believe that good management begins with measurement and honesty. One big way we can ensure our success and continued excellence is to manage our budgets with prudence and vigilance.

My approach is that even when we disagree, we should all be on the same side working toward a better result for all. Board of Finance is a job of service and management, not grandstanding. It’s putting people before politics. I’d like to have your readers’ mandate and encourage them to vote for me, Robert J. Hartmann, Jr.
