Experience and Fresh Faces

While a lot of attention is being paid to next year’s election, there’s an equally important election happening in town this fall that will help determine the future of our community. In that election on Nov. 5, I hope your readers join me in supporting the Guilford Democrats team. The perfect mix of experience and fresh faces, this group will continue the great progress we’ve made in Guilford in recent years and serve our community well.

Bill Bloss’s decision not to run for re-election this year is a huge loss for our town given the tremendous progress our schools have made during his time as Board of Education chair. Incumbent Katie Balestracci has been a big part of that progress during her eight years on the board and will help lead a continuation of that progress during another term.

Newcomers Dick Hersh and John DellaVentura bring new and important perspectives to the board. Dick, a former college president, has a deep background in education and a firm grasp of policy. John, a Guilford native, has a long history of giving back to the town as a volunteer and will be a great voice for fellow parents and Guilford’s next generation.

For Board of Finance, Mike Ayles has done a fantastic job of leading the effort to craft lean and pragmatic budgets as board chair. Running alongside him is my wife Meghan Scanlon. While I’m definitely biased, she’s passionate about helping others in our community and has done a great job of balancing fiscal responsibility with protecting the services that make our town great since joining the board in 2017.

This phenomenal team, along with Brian Wiley for Board of Assessment Appeals, will do great things for Guilford. I encourage your readers to join me in supporting them on Nov. 5!
