Courage and Leadership

We are fortunate that Tom Banisch is again running for first selectman to further implement his strong leadership for our town. Tom has consistently worked to provide sound fiscal management at a time when the State of Connecticut is in fiscal crisis. He has worked to expand our tax base, look for ways to reduce spending, and improve our school system while maintaining the quality of our lives.

Tom has shown his courage and leadership abilities by taking on two major issues: What to do with Academy School and creating a long range plan for Madison. After 15 years, Tom has brought the Academy School issue to a head with the soon to be referendum on its future use. He has also provided leadership in bringing about a much-needed long range plan for Madison. Such a plan will create a unified approach. This will alleviate duplicity and save taxpayer money. All of our town needs—for the school system, the Academy plan, and other town needs—must and will be part of this long range plan.

There are many other achievements during Tom’s tenure in office where his leadership proved strong for our town such his work on implementing a tax freeze for our senior citizens, keeping our Aaa Bond rating, continuing to improve our down town appearance, improving our town road maintenance, and many others that are too numerous to list.

Based on the success that we have had under Tom’s leadership, the voters should award Tom with another two years as first selectman—he has earned it. I encourage your readers to go to the polls on Election Day and re-elect Tom Banisch as first selectman for the Town of Madison.
