Collaborative Approach, Positive Results

Two years ago, your readers voted to turn the page—they elected me as first selectman to set the town up for success. I did what was right ethically for the town when dealing with contracts, budgets, adding policies and procedures, charter change, and the transition to the town manager.

I’m proud of my collaborative approach and the positive results. Look at what we’ve achieved in such a short window of time: Indian River Landing under development, Unilever is sold and under development, the Arts District and Town Council and a Greenway. I’ve worked with our legislators to fight for our fair share of state funding and to see our new train station break ground, in spite of budget cuts. I’m most proud of providing budgets that were fair and approved by the voters the first round. We refinanced our debt to save taxpayers $758,000. We paid cash for capital projects, instead of bonding. These measures will reduce taxes long-term.

I leave my role knowing that I’ve created efficiency and stability in many town departments, particularly with the transition of the Department of Public Works and Finance Department, benefiting taxpayers with a strong leadership at the helm and long-term strategic planning. I supported the restructuring of the Police Department for the benefit of our town’s people with a professional command structure.

I’ve taken the steps to make economic development a reality with collaboration with the Economic Development Commission on tourism, manufacturing, business forums, and tax incentives. We’ve signaled to the local businesses and developers that Clinton is the place to grow their business.

I’m asking for your readers’ votes to keep me working, on their behalf, to keep our jewel of shoreline moving forward with a professional team on Town Council. I encourage your readers to vote Row A!
