Libraries Are Essential

Oct. 20 to 26, 2019 is the 14th annual National Friends of Libraries Week, and it’s the perfect time to recognize the Friends of the James Blackstone Memorial Library. The friends group was formed more than 30 years ago and this past year made a special contribution of $50,000, the largest donation it the history of the friends.

The friends group supports the library by providing museum passes, children’s programming, lecture series, books for the book club, and streaming services Hoopla and Kanopy. Friends groups are non-profit organizations consisting of individual members that believe libraries are essential to their communities.
