What’s Left to Say?

These are direct quotes from First Selectman Tom Banisch as reported in The Source.

Regarding Academy School, is it any wonder that people have questions? “I’ve been very transparent from the beginning, to the chagrin and dismay of some, that I support a private option for development of the property.” [Dec. 13, 2018, “How Did We Get Here?”] “Is the question, ‘Do we have a community center?’ Is the question, ‘Do we do something else?’ That’s what we need to work on now.” [Aug. 27, “Academy Proposal Moves Toward Possible Referendum”] Note: The survey conducted in December 2018 showed that the community center was the overwhelming favorite option, and the only option to receive more support (60 percent) than opposition.

On the Downtown Center Project, where’s the progress? “The biggest disappointment I’ve faced in this job is not getting the poles and wires down by now.” July 6, 2017 “An Update on Several Things”] “We feel like we’re close sometimes, and then get blown out of the water.” [Sept. 17, “Eminent Domain Proceedings Continue Amid Madison Downtown Negotiations”]

Regarding beach passes, what is left to say? “One of the best aspects of the new system is flexibility. We will be able to identify problems as they occur and fix them within the existing framework. In addition, we anticipate an increase in revenues and a potential savings on personnel.” [Feb. 14, “No Lines at the Gate”]

Regarding lifeguards and liability over safety? “If you have lifeguards, then you create a liability for the town...Because if something goes wrong, you’re liable for the actions of the lifeguard. If you don’t have a lifeguard, then you don’t have that liability.” Oct. 2, “Madison Discusses Possible Solutions to Lifeguard Shortage, Liabilities”]

Madison deserves better.
