Understand What’s at Stake

Next month, Madison voters go to the polls to cast their votes for the team that will lead us for the next few years. I don’t think I need to remind anyone how critical to Madison’s future this election is. As our state stumbles to fix growing problems and state leaders fail to show courage to move our state in the right direction, towns like Madison are targeted to give more and take less of their share. This impacts all of us.

It impacts the growth of property taxes, the value of our homes, the lack of opportunities for our children, and the ability to ensure that our seniors can retire in a community that they helped build. This is also a time of great concern for our small businesses. They are under attack with ever-growing taxes and new predatory mandates. Instead of growing their business and creating jobs, local businesses are cutting back and trying to survive.

I have served on the Board of Finance (BOF) and have seen firsthand how important this board is to the financial stability of Madison. That’s why I am pleased that Fillmore McPherson is coming out of retirement. Besides being a former first selectman, Fillmore was chairman of the BOF for six years. He is a fiscal conservative who was instrumental in Madison being in such great shape today.

Justin Murphy is a long time Madison resident who returned to the town he loves and wants to give back. His outstanding professional financial experience is just what we need on our BOF.

Times ahead are going to be difficult due to our state problems. We need leaders who understand what is at stake and understand that the decisions of today impact us all. I encourage your readers to support Fillmore McPherson and Justin Murphy.
