Smart, Fair, Open-Minded

We are writing to ask you to consider supporting Phil Sengle for police commissioner. Phil and his lovely spouse Linda moved into Clinton about 10 years ago and we met them shortly thereafter. They are lifelong Connecticutites, originating in the Berlin/Kensington area (but we won’t hold that against them). Phil took an early retirement working as an engineer with SNET, a company that emphasized charity and one that encouraged their employees and executives to volunteer and serve in their local communities. Phil has done this all of his adult life, serving in Clinton for several years as police commissioner chair and currently as a selectman.

He has been a tireless and vocal supporter for a non-partisan town manager/council of government. Phil has said and written that “this will bring us a qualified, certified, educated, and vetted town manager overseen by a policy-setting, elected, seven-member town council.” Our citizens agreed with Phil in last year’s election, voting 4,317 to 1,540 to switch to a town manager. Phil is currently chairing the town’s search committee to identify the best candidates.

Personally we think Phil is smart, fair, open-minded, altruistic, athletic, and has a good sense of humor. Here’s one of Phil’s favorite jokes. “Do you know why people traditionally drink eggnog during the holidays? Because eggnog is the only drink with enough surface tension to force fruitcake through your colon.” He is also way younger than Joe Biden.

All humor aside, as a prior police commission chair, Phil is well qualified for the office. We encourage your readers to consider voting for Phil and his running mate Rob Derry, Green Party, on Nov. 5.
