Plays a Vital Role

Tom Banisch does a fine job as Madison’s chief executive and, in the face of ever-escalating costs and near-zero support from the state in the form of municipal aid, he and the Board of Selectmen are to be commended for keeping our property tax increases as low as possible. The town is well-managed and has built a sound fiscal foundation.

What people may not always appreciate is that Madison is not an island and it is important that we have a dialogue with other small towns in Connecticut who are facing some of the same issues that we face. This is why I want to thank Tom for his involvement with the Connecticut Council of Small Towns (COST). COST’s message states, in part, that it champions interests of small towns at the capital, provides members with resources to help them manage regulatory issues, and enables member towns to stay up to date on new laws and regulations. As a vice president of the council, Tom plays a vital role in carrying the small town message to Hartford. Going the extra mile is what I have come to expect from Tom.

As we move toward Nov. 5, I hope candidates on all sides will pause for a moment and appreciate and value where we have similarities and not always focus on our differences. One overarching similarity is that we all care for Madison and want to see it prosper and flourish. Let’s not let politics allow us to lose sight of that shared desire.
