Nothing More Than Serve

I’m writing to endorse the following candidates in Clinton’s municipal election. All are highly qualified and none are running for office for financial gain. I’m tired of folks who have taken office with the intent of changing regulations to line their pockets with projects they approve. The five who follow are a breath of fresh air, as they want to do nothing more than serve as your representatives.

Eric Bergman will make a superb member of the Town Council. A fabulous and beloved Morgan teacher, Eric also coaches the school’s state championship golf team. Additionally, he served as faculty advisor for municipal candidate debates, was a member of the recent Charter Revision Commission, and for years has proved himself by virtue of his non-partisanship.

Jim Connolly has made his mark by standing up for environmental protection and historic preservation in our town and is well able to examine community development in a balanced and thoughtful manner. He’d make an excellent addition to Clinton’s Planning & Zoning Commission.

Phil Sengle and Rob Derry are my choice for police commission. Phil served there for years before becoming a selectman. Rob, a state trooper, is running to retain his slot on that commission. Together, they’d be a valuable asset to the town and the department.

Jane Scully Welch would be a fabulous Town Council member. She grew up in Clinton and came back following retirement. Whether it’s her Pretty Committee; service on the Board of Finance, the 350 Celebration, and the Morgan Alumni Association; or bicycles with baskets full of flowers around town, her enthusiasm for all things Clinton is contagious.

So I encourage your readers to skip the first two lines on their ballot and go straight to three and four, for that is where they’ll find these candidates’ names.
