Business and Financial Acumen

I have had the pleasure of serving with Kevin Kranzler on the Board of Finance since he was appointed in 2017. In that time, his business and financial acumen as a CPA and the chief operating officer of a major Connecticut company, his keen analytical mind, and his deep connections to the Madison community have been a tremendous asset to the board. He is respected and valued by members of both political parties for his willingness to ask the tough questions that the Board of Finance is supposed to ask and his insistence that board take the time needed to fully understand the implications of our actions before we vote.

Kevin is known as someone who always speaks his mind and who does what he says he will do, no matter the political winds. He has sometimes taken unpopular positions for principled reasons, but he has then convinced critics through his good faith and hard work that he was acting in the best interests of the town and the institutions that the critics were supporting.

Kevin has also been a champion of greater transparency in town government and has consistently pushed back against special appropriations and other spending requests that did not follow the proper process or that might not be visible to the public. At the same time, he has always been willing to find a way to protect and enhance the quality of life in Madison in a fiscally responsible manner. He has insisted on wise investments to protect our capital assets and to keep Madison a desirable, affordable town that attracts new residents and retains those who have built this community.

After two years, Kevin is just hitting his stride. Madison will be well served by returning him to the Board of Finance.
