A Respect for Process

Peggy Lyons’s executive and managerial experience qualifies her well for leading and managing Madison as first selectman. Equally important is her understanding of the differences between running a business and leading a town government.

Peggy is a leader who appreciates the (admittedly cumbersome) process of decision making in a government. She recognizes that she will be the chair of a board, and that successful leadership means including the full board in decisions, as well as including other boards and commissions and also the townspeople in the process of making decisions and implementing plans.

To the detriment of the town, First Selectman Tom Banisch has repeatedly circumvented proper process, and he has not learned from past mistakes. Examples include changing a road paving contract that required a $450,000 special appropriation, the Town Campus Baseball Field debacle that ultimately required Board of Finance intervention, and the failed changes to the Surf Club Beach Pass system.

Peggy Lyons brings leadership, management experience, a team approach, a focus on sound fiscal policy, a legacy of dedication to Madison, and a respect for process that has been lacking.

Let’s elect Peggy as first selectman. And while we’re at it, let’s re-elect selectmen Al Goldberg and Scott Murphy. Al and Scott have proven effective during their tenure, and their talents will be put to even better use when the Board of Selectmen operates as a board.

Let’s elect Peggy, Al, and Scott to the Board of Selectmen.
