A More Suitable Idea

The Sept. 25 article by Jesse Williams “Procedural Questions Delay Approval of Solar Carport” is miscaptioned. It was not “procedural questions” that delayed the approval of the solar carports, but First Selectman Tom Banisch’s ineffective leadership. To be clear, I am wholly supportive of creating more sources of green energy in town. However, any proposed action needs to be presented to our entire board of elected officials and town residents with sufficient time to review and consider the matter.

On Sept. 9, without even having provided information to the full Board of Selectman, Banisch made a motion to approve the project. When other members of the board raised concern about not having had time to review the proposal, Banisch indicated that (according to The Source) he had confidence in the work he had put into vetting the contract. Banisch has no limit to his own self confidence. However, many town residents, including myself, have no confidence in him.

Madison needs a leader who will work with the other elected members of our town government. Thankfully, Peggy Lyons has a more suitable idea of how government needs to work. Peggy has voiced the opinion that all local government officials need to work together. She doesn’t want to “win,” she wants to make Madison a better place to live.

I applaud selectmen Scott Murphy and Al Goldberg for their efforts to keep our government transparent and waiting to get all the information to make informed decisions. For these reasons, I endorse Peggy Lyons to be our new first selectman and Scott Murphy and Al Goldberg to continue on the Board of Selectman.
