10/09/2019 08:00 AMI’m writing to introduce myself as a Republican candidate for the Old Saybrook Police Commission. My name is Susan Quish and I’m a lifelong resident of Connecticut. My husband and I moved to Old Saybrook in June 2013 after raising our three daughters in Simsbury.
Old Saybrook was a wonderful choice for the next chapter in our lives based on our love of all things coastal. We were also drawn to Old Saybrook for its reputation as a well-run community—particularly at a time when our state and other towns have labored to improve efficiency and maintain services. On that point, First Selectman Carl Fortuna, Selectman Scott Giegerich, and Treasurer Bob Fish are to be congratulated for consistently delivering value for residents of Old Saybrook.
I enjoyed a 41-year career in the employee benefits field working for two of the largest health insurers in the country. Over my career, I was the lead point of contact with many of our largest and most complex clients, which required, among other things, strong listening/people skills and high-level problem-solving.
My interest in serving on the Police Commission stems from growing up in a police family. My dad was a 35-year veteran of the Hartford Police Department; my brother followed in his footsteps, attaining the rank of captain before retiring. As a result, I can think of nothing more natural than supporting Old Saybrook’s Department of Police Services in its efforts to serve our great town.
The police department serves such an important role in building strong partnerships with every aspect of life in our community. Our police assist with everything from child safety seat installation to safe biking to emergency preparedness. I look forward to representing the people of Old Saybrook on the Police Commission and ask for your readers’ vote this November!
