Gratitude to All

The Friends of the Guilford Free Library would like to thank everyone who contributed to the success of the 38th annual Book and Bake Sale. The sale took place the weekend of Sept. 27 to 29, but the effort lasted far longer, beginning with donors who all year brought in their gently used books for resale. We thank them as well as the bakers who donated homemade treats; volunteers who worked as cashiers; library staff, whose efforts went beyond the call of duty; the Guilford Savings Bank, which helped defray the cost of tents; Citizens Bank, whose staff volunteered as cashiers; and the media, whose publicity brought hundreds of book lovers to the event.

We especially thank our supporters who patronized the sale. Also, a special thank you and recognition goes to the friends who sorted and boxed tons of books, week in and week out all year, and who help set up, organize, and take down the sale.

Because of the efforts of these contributors the sale raised a record $58,100. Proceeds from past sales have purchased hundreds of new books (print and non-print), laptops for computer classes, a 3D printer, a Virtual Reality set, and a portable display screen so computer classes can be held anywhere in the library. Funds have also allowed library patrons to enjoy amenities like the soundproof telephone booth for making cellphone calls. The proceeds will also support author discussions, lectures, concerts, movies, summer reading programs, technology classes, and museum passes as well as library staff development.

The Friends of the Guilford Free Library expresses gratitude to all who made the sale a successful and truly town-wide event. We encourage your readers to consider joining the friends or donating gently used books, ephemera, prints, or maps for our next sale.
