A New, Positive Attitude

I met Peggy Lyons in St. Margaret’s Mommy & Me program in 2010. We were both new moms struggling with the challenges of parenting small children and figuring out the right mix of love, support, and discipline. We became fast friends. Over many cups of tea while the kids played, we discussed how lucky we were to be raising our families in Madison. Our conversations digressed on the many ways things could be better managed in our town.

I grew to admire Peggy for not just complaining about her concerns. She stepped up and got involved. She felt compelled to do more than just vent—she wanted to make a difference for all of us. She was often perplexed by our town’s gridlock in decision-making, and frustrated by the lack of transparency in our political system. With her educational credentials (Cornell and Wharton MBA) and extensive career in the business world, she had the background and experience to know that Madison could do better.

Peggy has served on our Economic Development Commission and our Board of Finance, and now sits on our police commission. In each role, she has demonstrated her intellect, integrity, command of the facts, and most important, willingness to listen to others. She cares about finding solutions, not pushing an agenda.

I was not surprised when she raised her hand this year to run. She brings her extensive qualifications and a new, positive attitude to the office. I most admire that she wants to represent all the town’s people, not just a small group. Plus, she will be the first woman to hold the job since the 1970s!

It’s time for a change in Madison, and I encourage everyone to vote for Peggy Lyons on Nov. 5.
