They Were a Delight

On Sunday, Sept. 22, three baseball teams representing the Chester, Deep River, and Essex historical societies played a spirited round robin to determine a victor, playing by 1857 rules. A large crowd enjoyed the fifth year of this competition, with Chester prevailing this year.

When the usual volunteer groups who serve refreshments were unavailable this year, I turned to the Interact Club at Valley Regional High School. This is a service club that volunteers to help with all sorts of community activities when called upon to do so.

This year, Maddi Rice, Campbell Toth, Riley Bauer, Ava Cunningham, Sophie Scrivo, and Charlotte Norling showed up ready to go. They were a delight to work with and took charge of the refreshment stand with confidence and charm. I thank the Interact Club for helping make our old time baseball game a big success.
