The Nature of the People

My name is Joe Martin and I’m a Democratic candidate for the North Branford Town Council. I’ve lived at 29 Deforest Drive for the past 53 years with my wife Cee Cee and our six children, Elizabeth, Joseph, Ellenmary, Patrick, Catherine, and Amy.

I degrees from UConn, Cornell, Central Connecticut State University, and Southern Connecticut State University. I was a business teacher at Branford High School for 31 years and an adjunct professor at the University of New Haven and Albertus Magnus College. Our family owned the Dairy Queen in North Branford for more than 28 years

As parents of activity children, we’ve been very involved in town through coaching; serving as a team sponsor, troop leader, and PTO president; and participating in many schools activities.

I’ve served as president of the Cedar Lake Association and a North Branford business owners group and served on the Planning & Zoning Commission and North Branford scholarship committee and been a member of the New Haven Irish American Community Center and St. Ambrose Parish.

So why after 53 years in town am I now running for Town Council? I’ve always had a strong feeling about this town, not because of any special town feature or event, but because of the nature of the people who live here—our friends, our neighbors, our children’s friends and parents. We’re all part of the North Branford family. We’re there to help celebrate happy times and we’re always there to comfort each other in times of sadness. This is what makes the Town of North Branford what it is.

It’d be an honor to represent your readers and help continue to make North Branford a great place to live and raise a family. I need their support and votes on Tuesday, Nov. 5.
