The Importance of Local

With so much attention being given to the national political circus, it’s easy to forget the importance of local elections. Voter participation is typically very low in municipal elections, but let’s make this year different. Let’s see it as a dress rehearsal for a massive turnout in 2020.

The 4th District offers three candidates whose work has only begun on the Representative Town Meeting (RTM). Their talents will add to the already-solid Democratic RTM team.

Shahida Soomro, a Branford resident for 12 years, was appointed to the RTM and is looking to solidify that appointment. She moved to Branford for its opportunities. Her community activism includes the Food Allergy Network and being on the planning committee for the Branford Hills opening celebration. Her sons attend the University of Connecticut and Walsh Intermediate School.

Cynthia Lombardi has been an RTM member since May 2018 and works on the Education Committee. She’s been a Branford resident since 2008 and looks forward to serving the 4th District.

Dan Adelman has served on the RTM for two years, working on the Rules and Ordinances and Administrative Services committees. He is passionate about the environment and education and wants to encourage a friendly business environment in Branford while maintaining its rural integrity.

This is your readers’ chance for their voices to be heard. The polls open at 6 a.m. Nov. 5.
