I am the vice chair of the Board of Finance and I am endorsing the Old Saybrook Republican ticket for November.

I have served on the Board of Finance for three years. I am a retired employee benefit consultant and have been responsible for benefit budgets in excess of $45 million. I retired as vice president of consulting services for a major national bank. I have worked closely with the Board of Selectmen, including First Selectman Carl Fortuna and Selectman Scot Geigerich, and the treasurer, Bob Fish, in setting the town budget. Together, we have increased the town’s rainy-day fund to 15 percent following a recommendation of the town’s auditors.

I am also sure the taxpayers of Old Saybrook have noticed the many improvements to our infrastructure. The sidewalks have been improved, columns at The Kate have been repaired, town roads have been updated, parking lots have been redesigned, and the Youth & Family Services building has undergone a badly needed facelift. All these accomplishments have been achieved without a significant increase in the mill rate. As a matter of fact, the mill rate decreased last year.

The Republican majority on the Board of Finance, including incumbents Tom Stevenson and me, has been working diligently to safeguard appropriate expenditures and ensure a sound financial basis for the town. With Rick Swan, our latest highly qualified Board of Finance candidate, we have a strong slate for the Board of Finance.

I encourage your readers to vote for the Republican candidates for all boards and commissions this November. The Republican Party has assembled a strong and experienced group of devoted individuals who are ready to work for the betterment of Old Saybrook.
