Outstanding Performance

The intent of this letter is to formally recognize the outstanding performance by the East Haven Fire Department. On Aug. 25, my brother, Brian Wnek, took my son PJ (his nephew) into our yard for one of their nature walks. While outside, Brian stepped on a yellow jacket nest on the edge of our property, disrupting the hive. As they began attacking him, he was able to pass PJ off to my sister in law, Chrisanne Pilletere Wnek, who ran him to the house with Brian yelling for help.

While we got PJ to safety, Brian continued to be stung both inside and outside of the house. Because of the number of yellow jackets, Brian went into anaphylactic shock and 911 was called. My mom was able to administer an epi-pen before the EMT/paramedics/fire department arrived. He was rushed to the hospital and was in the MICU for multiple nights. PJ was checked out and despite several stings and a swollen eye, he was cleared by the EMT/paramedics and his doctor.

I would like to specifically thank firefighter/EMTs Bryan Kollmer, Frederick Parlato, Michael Malerba, and Robert Furtak and firefighter/paramedics Jonathan Mustacchi and Christopher Rosa.

Because of the paramedics, the EMTs, and everyone who came in response to our 911 call, my brother is alive today.
