Dedicated Volunteers

As chairman of the Old Saybrook Board of Finance, every other Tuesday I meet with dedicated volunteers on the board who are there to serve the public. This year, board members Tom Stevenson and Carol Rzasa are running for re-election, and Rick Swan is running for his first term. Tom and Carol are attentive and detailed-oriented members who seek to protect our tax dollars. Rick Swan has been attending meetings for months and, based upon what I see, will be an excellent addition to the Board. All three deserve election to the board.

I have also seen firsthand the work that our first selectman, Carl Fortuna, is doing for our town. He never misses a meeting and brings business before our board that reflects the town’s short-term and long-term needs, not wants. Carl seems to be out nearly every night at some town meeting or another, but that is indicative of his absolute and total dedication to the town’s business. With dedication comes success and from my seat on the Board of Finance, the town’s business has been handled beautifully by Carl and his team.

They say the sign of a true leader is someone who is willing to hire smart people. In transforming town government, I have seen the change that the people on Carl’s team have made which has helped Old Saybrook navigate uncertain times successfully while our state continues to flounder. Expenses are controlled and long-term investments are duly considered before being voted on. The quality of life we all enjoy in Old Saybrook has improved over the last eight years and that is largely due to the town’s leadership.
