A Record of Vision

I am endorsing Dr. Richard Hersh to retain his position on the Guilford Board of Education. With a long-standing and prestigious career in education—from a high school teacher to president at two elite colleges—Dr. Hersh has a record of vision and leadership with some of our country’s finest institutions. He has the unique understanding of the foundations of education that are imperative to prepare children and youth to be lifelong learners, critical thinkers, and valued members of their academic communities. With the depth and breadth of experience he brings, Dr. Hersh understands the positive impact that well-supported educators, staff, and administrators can have in supporting the complex needs of today’s youth and their families.

Although relatively new to Guilford, Dr. Hersh has demonstrated a strong commitment to our community. In January, he filled the school board seat that became vacant after Christine Cohen’s state senate victory. Since then, he has been meeting with students, teachers, and administrators about a myriad of pressing issues, including bullying, social media, vaping, budgets, and strategic planning, and I believe he should see his good work through in a full term.

Dr. Hersh recently stated, “Schools are the soul of a community representing our collective hopes for the future.” Richard Hersh represents the type of leader I would like to see on the Guilford Board of Education.
