Could Mean Disaster

As an educator in the East Haven School System for many years and as a candidate running for Town Council in the 3rd District, I am concerned with both quality education and quality of life issues for all our residents.

There is a proposed plan to build 500 units on Sperry Lane. As this is right between the high school and Deer Run Elementary School, this could mean disaster. The entrance to Sperry Lane is off Route 80, which is already an issue with high traffic.

Those 500 units could possibly create an additional 400 students to the school district. It costs roughly $15,000 per student to educate. The town gave the school system a $50,000 increase in the recent budget, so how do we educate an additional 400 students?

The kids deserve better. The residents deserve a better quality of life. I highly encourage everyone to attend the Planning & Zoning Commission public hearing to oppose this project to keep this R5 property zoned as is on Wednesday, Oct. 2 at 7 p.m. at the East Haven Senior Center.
