A Gem on the Shoreline

I spent some time in Clinton this morning with the Shoreline Greenway Trail folks to see the town’s portion of the trail. It was a great walk and leader Carrie Allen is knowledgeable about her town and an advocate for more open space and outdoor activities for all members of the community.

We started at Town Beach. It is gorgeous and so family oriented. You can see the Hammonasset State Park, the Hammock River, Cedar Island. It is beautiful as a coastal walking experience.

We then walked up Waterside Lane and through the historic downtown and behind the Town Hall. There is land trust property there that can be walked and once again a lovely river (the Indian River).

There are so many ways for people to kayak and get out in nature. Being on foot, you also see up close the shops, eateries, antique stores that are downtown.

In these times of great concern about our environment and the impact of climate change, these local groups are very important to saving our precious areas/resources for people to enjoy. The long term plan to have a walkable/bikable trail through the shoreline towns is a ways off, but supporting these efforts is wise. Once something is lost, that’s it.

The people of Clinton must be very proud of their town. It’s a gem on the shoreline and the Greenway Trails are an important part of these Communities.
